Paper Pattern
Description
The
examination for GATE is conducted for the online mode in multiple sessions for
some streams like Mechanical and Civil engineering (due to large number of
candidates). GATE Examination consists of MCQs
(Multiple Choice Questions) and NTQs (Numerical Type
Questions). Multiple Choice Questions have 4 options, of which only
one is correct. For Numerical Type Questions the answer is in the form of
digits (decimal, negative sign can also be included) which is entered in the
console using the mouse. The paper consists of the following types of questions:
The questions
in a paper may be designed to test the following abilities:
(i) Section
A (Non-Technical): Aptitude and English: Questions
from Reasoning, Aptitude and English are included in this section the
difficulty level of which is kept to such a level that everybody is able to
solve at least 80% of the questions. This section is weighted about 25 marks.
(ii) Section
B (Technical): This section contains purely technical questions from the core
engineering discipline. This section has the heaviest weightage. The questions
are framed from almost every part of the syllabus prescribed for the GATE
examination.
