  • The examination is composed of both conventional and objective type questions hence a good hold over theory, conceptual knowledge and problem solving techniques are equally absolutely necessary from the preparation point of view.

  • For the conventional or subjective paper a candidate must possess hold over subjective theory, good writing skills, explanations, derivations, excellent presentation, diagrams and equations. These qualities are a gateway to good scores in the examination.

  • The candidate must keep himself/ herself about the changing pattern and syllabus for the ESE as the council keeps on introducing new topics and eliminates the outdated portions from the syllabus.

  • One must also be fully aware of the negative marking scheme, weightage, exam duration and marks per question related to ESE.

  • One must have a habit of referring to the previous year question papers so as to get a brief idea of the questions asked in the examination.

  • One must prefer standard textbooks for derivations, equations, conceptual thinking, and theory.

  • One must try to solve the question by using the appropriate short cut techniques for numerical solving instead of traditional approach.

  • One must develop a daily habit of reading newspaper, watching morning bulletin, surfing related websites which will help the candidates to prepare and score better in the General ability paper carrying 200 marks.
      
  • One must not try to ignore the General Ability part as this section is scoring and also plays an important role in personal interview.

  • Deep analysis of the weaker topics and concentrating more on those topics which have a very high probability will lead to better scores.

  • A habit of solving the paper within the given stipulated time will eventually lead to better accuracy and time management skills of the candidates.

  • Intense knowledge of the subjects, strong basics, and clear concepts helps in better understanding of the subjects and prove to be instrumental in getting good scores.

  • Personal Interview: Sound technical knowledge, no diplomatic answers, Positive attitude, Body language, Good communication skills, knowledge about current affairs plays an important role to clear personal interviews. One must also be prepared about their strength and weal areas.
